Designed in 1951 by Hans J. Wegner, the Bear Chair was originally manufactured by AP Stolen Denmark.
The Papa Bear Chair seems to refer to the animal kingdom with its characteristically playful and organic design. Often called, "the most comfortable chair ever made!" and simply known as "model 19," this classic chair has become an icon of mid-century Danish design.
Its Danish name (Bamsestol) translates to "Bear Chair," while in recent years it has become affectionately known as the "Papa Bear Chair." Setting the gold standard for general comfort, the Papa Bear Chair is the most popular of the many Wegner designs.
The Papa Bear Chair has been made in Los Angeles since 1994, adhering strictly to the original design with regard to dimensions, frame and pleating. Offered in a variety of fabrics and leathers.

Waistcoat: 82% Polyester, 18% Acrylic. Exceeds 50,000 double rubs. Water- or solvent-based cleaners may be used. Spot clean using a mild water-free solvent or dry clean for heavily soiled fabric. Inherently ink and stain resistant Write-Off finish.
TYPE 3:
Synergy: 95% Pure New Wool, 5% Nylon. Exceeds 100,000 double rubs. Water- or solvent-based cleaners may be used.
Hemp: 60% Pure New Wool, 40% Hemp. Exceeds 30,000 double rubs. Solvent-based cleaners may be used.
TYPE 4:
Premium Leather: 100% Finished/Smooth Leather. Care: wipe periodically with dry cloth to remove dust and residue; for stains and spills dampen rag with warm water and blot stain, never scrub or use harsh cleansers.
