Noodles signify longevity due to their shape, dumplings represent wealth with their resemblance to gold ingots, fish embodies prosperity because the Chinese word for fish, "yu," sounds like the word for prosperity, sweet glutinous balls known as "tang yuan" symbolize reunions, and oranges are associated with good luck.

Similar auspicious foods are often eaten in other Asian countries that celebrate Lunar New Year.
