Have you always wanted to try indigo dyeing but aren't sure where to begin? These beginner friendly kits take the guesswork out, with pre-measured ingredients to create one organic indigo vat, with which you can dye fabric, yarn, garments, home goods in gorgeous shades of blue. Included are comprehensive instructions that guide you through, step by step.
Indigo cannot be dyed in the same way as other natural dyes, but must be made into a vat, with pure plant indigo, an alkali and a reducing agent. The the process is nothing short of magical, as you watch the fibers turn from green to blue as they oxidize. The vat can remain active for a week or longer, depending on how much you use it. Packaged in a sturdy, recyclable kraft paper box which has been silk screened by hand.
Indigo can be used to dye any natural fibers, not synthetics. You can dye fabric, yarn, garments, wood, anything that you like, and any fiber, such as cotton, linen, wool, silk, bamboo, rayon, hemp, etc. A small amount of synthetic fiber content such as 5% spandex in a garment, or 5% nylon in a sock yarn, is no problem.
